Welding Slag

Thanks for your info Tommyjoking, but the slag came from Submerged Arc Welding as you know it generates a huge amount of slag. In history, we normally crushed the slag to consider as Recovered, mixed it with Flux (25% Recovery and 75% ) and used it in production, but we stop that practice due to Customer requirements and related quality issues.

Submerged Arc Welding Consumables - Part 3 - TWI

The first digit, the letter 'F', identifies the consumable as a submerged arc welding flux, the next letter 'S' is only included if the flux is made from or includes crushed slag. Omission of this letter 'S' indicates that the flux is unused and contains no crushed used flux introduced either by the flux manufacturer or the welding fabricator.

Definition - Recycled flux is the slag that is collected from the weld send out to a recycle, ground up, adding silicates and mixing with a percentage of flux. also known as crushed slag. Using recycled flux that has not be properly screened (eliminating the large and small particles) is a problem, many recyclers can screen out the large ...

On the surface - Welding Productivity

An example of weld spatter is shown in Figure 2. Weld slag. Weld slag is formed when flux, a solid shielding material used in the welding process, melts in or on top of the weld zone. Slag is the solidified remaining flux that forms over the weld bead as the weld area cools.

Third Party Code Testing - Harbert's Products, Inc.

Third Party Code Testing. Most of the governing welding codes require that each batch / lot of Crushed Flux / Slag or *Crushed Slag be tested to the same requirements of the New Flux. Harbert's can provide Classification (AWS, ASME, **CSA) or Qualification (ASME) testing for each lot of Crushed Flux that we process.

Steel Slag - Material Description - User Guidelines for ...

This nonmetallic slag material can either be crushed and screened for aggregate use (steel slag aggregates), or sintered and recycled as flux material in the iron and steel furnaces. Steel slag aggregates generally exhibit a propensity to expand. This is because of the presence of free lime and magnesium oxides that have not reacted with the ...

BAKING AND HANDLING CONDITIONS - Welding Material

4 Slag and metallic particles should be removed from the recycled flux and discarded prior to using recy cled flux. 4 Fines should be removed from recycled flux. Excessive levels of fines will impair the welding perform ance of the flux and degrade the weld bead appearance. 4 Re-crushed slag should not be used as flux for welding operations.

Recycling of submerged arc welding slag for sustainability

(4) Weld pad obtained using pure slag A weld pad was designed using crushed slag. The spectroanalysis of weld pad was performed to evaluate weld specimen composition.

Slag (welding) - Wikipedia

Welding slag is a form of slag, or vitreous material produced as a byproduct of some arc welding processes, most specifically shielded metal arc welding (also known as stick welding), submerged arc welding, and flux-cored arc welding.Slag is formed when flux, the solid shielding material used in the welding process, melts in or on top of the weld zone (also known as Dross).

weld. An outcome of the extreme welding heat solidifies the flux into a hardened waste known as slag. Waste slag is typically sent to landfill for disposal. Instead of landfilling this waste slag, the material can be crushed and re-used. To learn more about this process, MnTAP interviewed Daniel Baxter with Harbert's Products, a SAW slag

Electroslag Welding: Definition, Working Principle ...

The process of electro slag welding can be made semi-automatic which may help in faster welding of the workpiece. Minimum slag: Slag is the waste product generated during the process of welding. Slag may weaken the welding areas. Electroslag welding promotes low slag deposition than traditional welding methods.

Recrushed Slag Question - Welding, Bonding & Fastener ...

Functionally, you would need to verify (by testing samples of weld using the re-crushed slag) that the "process" is correct. It isn't that any PQR or WPS is "perfect" or is bureaucratically "impeccably written" by a lawyer, it is that the weld produced by a competent welder using that WPS is able to make quality welds under the same circumstances as the WPS was certified.
